Kehila Chadasha is the Washington area's “shul without walls.” A small and warm community, Kehila meets in schools, homes, community centers and parks. Sunday School classes and adult education lectures take place at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, MD.
Membership has stayed at about 100 families in recent years, with several new families joining and a few leaving each year. In the last few years we've seen an influx of families with young children, attracted to our progressive Sunday School and deciding to become members after getting an appreciation for our culture.
Kehila offers activities for a wide range of ages, interests and levels of religious observance. We have stimulating adult lectures, exciting Sunday School field trips, creative family onegs and holiday observances that reflect our rich heritage and culture.
Most of all, Kehila Chadasha is a community of people who care about one another, about social issues and about “Tikkun Olam,” repairing the world. We are egalitarian, diverse and welcoming. In a region where so many come from other places, most of us consider Kehila to be our extended family.
Open Houses are scheduled in the Fall and Spring for prospective members and school families to visit. Prospective members are invited to attend at least three different Kehila functions to get a taste of the community and see if it's for them.
