Scientist and linguist Evelyne Tzoukerman will share her personal story growing up in France set against a backdrop of a multiplicity of immigrations and emigrations that have occurred over time across continents. Her family history in France dates back to the 10th century.
Evelyne received a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Linguistics in 1986 from the Sorbonne, was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to Brown University, and was later recruited as a visiting scientist to the prestigious IBM TJ Watson Research Center in New York. She spent 14 years at Bell Laboratories as a computational linguist and more recently has been working at the MITRE corporation supporting government research on computers and languages. Dr. Tzoukermann also holds a Master’s degree in Russian literature on the symbolist poet Alexander Blok.
She spent one year in the then Soviet Union and helping Jewish refuseniks. She is the child of survivors.
