She presents this year’s Ticktin Memorial Lecture thanks to the generosity of Perry Cohen and Rosalie Mandelbaum, through the Bernard and Rae Alice Cohen Generations Fund. Cassedy’s latest book, On the Landing: Stories by Yenta Mash, presents an important writer for the first time in English translation and is a finalist for the Forward’s 2018 Book of the Year award. Mash, a woman of our own time who was born in Bessarabia in 1922 and died in Israel 2013, published stories that provide insight into the experiences of Jews in the tumultuous Soviet orbit. In 1977 she immigrated to Israel, where she first began writing, ultimately winning two of Israel’s leading literary prizes. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
