Are your bags packed? It's retreat time.
This year's retreat speaker will be Rabbi Bob Saks. After the Torah service led by Reb David on Shabbat morning, Rabbi Saks will introduce the subject of Jewish ethics and the meaningful life as expressed in biblical and rabbinical teachings. Later in the afternoon, Rabbi Saks will continue with medieval and modern ethical literary sources. Kehilites will then have an opportunity to engage interactively with each other and the sources in light of contemporary ethics.
Rabbi Bob Saks is an entertaining speaker combining humor, wisdom and experience. He is a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary, was the Hillel director at the U Of MD for 18 years. Prior to that he was the rabbi at Congregational for 10 years and sits on the Board of Directors JUFJ.
There will be a program for youth both in the morning and again in the afternoon on Saturday. While adults are exploring ethics and the meaningful life, students will be exploring the art and science of the natural world. Through different lenses, we will wonder about the natural world, how it works, what it provides, learn to identify different plants and through botanical illustration and printing explore the natural world as art. In the afternoon, we will soil map, exploring decomposition and compost and tie it all together with ice-cream making the good old fashioned way!
