Kehila's own Ben Sheiderman will introduce us to the celebrated work of his uncle David Seymour, known as Chim (pronounced in the French manner as "Shim";). Chim was one of the most prominent photojournalists of the twentieth century. A founder of the Magnum photo agency along with Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, Chim published some of the most recognizable photos of his era in Life and other major outlets. Born David Szymin in Poland in 1911, he photographed the Spanish Civil War, the children of postwar Europe, major celebrities, and the founding of Israel, among other subjects. Without doubt you know some of his pictures. He died covering the Suez campaign in 1956. Ben will show images and discuss his life.
